The use of straw in my garden

I spread a bale i of straw across the top of garden this winter in ky and my chickens just love it. It keeps their feet from standing on the cold hard ground plus I throw a little hay and a few sunflower seeds on top and it keeps them busy all day digging pecking

I put straw down in my run and they ADORE it. They just scratch and dig and scratch all day long.

What an easy inexpensive way to keep them happy

I use straw bales to insulate the outside of the coop during the Winter, in the Spring it all comes down and goes into my garden plots. It's my chickens job to scratch it down into proper soil of which they love. In the Summer planting season, it's all fenced off and they have to wait until the Fall when they are allowed to go back in and play I love my chickens.
