the USPS price were raised AGAIN

She shouldn't have told you that. The only method of guranteed mail is express. Priority is "usually" 2-3 days, but is not guranteed.

I am a mail carrier and probably shouldn't post in here, but...I love my job. I do well at it...but I'm not perfect...no one is. And we (mail carriers) do not in any way control your prices. Also please keep in mind how many people come in contact with your package on the way to its destination...please don't blame the delay on the entire post office. A lot of us do our absolute best every day. There will be a few (just like in every place of employment!) that just don't care and they make us all look bad.

You kow, there's an oxymoron in that statement. If we're paying MORE for Priority to get the mail there in the SAME amount of time, how is it the boxes are free?? Seems to me them's some DANG 'spensive boxes

See...I think it varies. I've sent chicks priority to a friend acrossed the state...and she got them in less than 24hrs. She sent me eggs late Tuesday afternoon priority and I got them this morning.

I've had priority be late. I've had priority be early. I've had first class be early. I've had it be late.

It amazes me how many people are involved in delivering a first class envelope when we only charge 40 some odd cents for it. hehe

Asher, I have nothing against the people of the USPS personally. My beef is the fact they want to charge an arm and leg for services that are, at most time, mediocre at best. Whether it's the airlines, the actual mail carrier, the package handlers - whatever - someone is dropping the ball and we are paying more for it....

OK, off my soapbox...(and really Asher, I was not directing at you, it's the whole system)

I know...I know...I love my job too much and need to just step out. hehe

Although with the price of gas increasing, I'll be shocked if a lot of mailing/delivery places do not raise their prices. It's just crazy.

Naw, you have every right to post your point of view and side of the story. I know my postal folks are great and I will be really bummed when our main postmaster retires in a few months....She puts up with me calling "did I get any packages today?? Can you hold them? Oh they're already packed for delivery? Yes, if you don't mind I would prefer to come get them. Oh thanks, I'll be there in a bit...."

That's another thing I like about working there...I can get my eggs from my carrier the minute she gets them out of her bin and put them in MY car so I can take care of them gently before I get home.

And she loves it because she knows I won't be home and she won't veer off the main road, go down my road, have to get out of the car, do a proper dismount (which is a pain in the BUTT!) and bring them up on my deck. hehe

I love my PO people but then again we are in a small town Iowa... They call me any time a box is marked fragile to let me know that eggs are coming. I have also learned that an extra day wont hurt them any worse. There are area I try not to buy from just because I know that the eggs will probably come scrambled. There are certain hubs that just dont like eggs..lol I have noticed at least will local mail that letters going north to south take a lot less time then letters going from south to north. Also west to east is faster then east to west. I had eggs from OR ship out Wed, and they actually got here today, FRIDAY!! Pretty good. Also my hubby shipped out button eggs for me this morning and they usually went for 5.25 today it was 5.40. I was expecting a lot more really. That wasnt near as bad as I thought. Jenn

Everyone SHOULD check all available resources. If you think UPS, FEDx, or Airbourne can do better, than use their services. Be careful, though, they post the prices and then hit you with a FUEL SURCHARGE when you get final calculations! Larger packages are often better sent by one of those carriers, though.

Our local drop&ship for the 3 above charges $1.00 to drop off a postage paid UPS package, it would cost me more in gas to drive directly to a UPS center. I only use these carriers sporactically and have had THREE issues with them already this year. UPS lost two of my orders (so it took over a week to get to where it should have been in two days) and broke one of our orders. None of them are perfect.

When I compare to the price of gas going up 10 cents a gallon every week, a penny at the post office doesn't mean much.
