the Varieties of Plymouth Rocks

From McMurray I'm surprised you got big Rocks any color. Glad your whites turned out!

Found this at a chicken swap this weekend. He's not scrawny by any means. He'll do.

That's a "cuckoo" Rock.

Someone gave me the advice once that you'll find the best specemins from self colored varieties. His example was someone who was breeding some utterly massive White Rocks and was quite famous for them. When you don't have to worry about color, you can focus solely on the conformation.

LOL yeah I'm sort of Cuckoo over him anyway. They were selling him off for meat when he was the best looking BR for a mile. I snatched him up. Heck, think he was the only one there with five points.

I'm going through the adventure of a flock of barreds and partridge. Always working toward partridge but keeping barreds because Laura loves the color and because I have a source for good heritage barreds.

It means some color play but I can keep improving both while culling the misadventures...

And Algernon is too neat a fellow to end up in a pot.

Breed Standard Book posted on CROHIO.com Plymouth Rock Club site!!!!!!!

It's ancient and in PDF but it's all there! I downloaded and saved it! Yay!

Soon I'm gonna get the APA but I still have more fence and coop to get up... At least now I have the right framework and SOME of the production birds actually DO look to be developing well toward the standard
