The nurse brought a salve and some ground cayenne to Katrina. "This may sting just a teensy bit," Katrina said softly. She removed the apron strip and applied a good bit of cayenne to the wound.
Jane heard the crash as well and went to see what it was.
Edwin shrugged. "Cliffton's worried about his horse, and the stable lads don't know where it's gone," he said.
Mariah washed her hands thoroughly in a basin of warm water. She stared in disgust at her bloodied gown. Her maid helped her get out of it to put on a new gown.
