(You headed to a castle, and your character is an Alnwick, so I assumed it was Alnwick castle. You said that time had past, but we were also far from Alnwick, a few hours away, but the ball is still going, and the horses have yet to properly meet each other, so in that sense it couldn't have been more than a few minutes which had passed. Maybe if you change it to a nearby town or house then it would be okay, or a small fortress. Then we can wait for the others to continue)
