*The Verge of War* A Medieval Rp

( :love )

Curiosity finally got the better of her. "Lovely evening, isn't it," Linnet commented, breaking the silence. She took a sip from her glass then leaned against the rail.

William slipped his hand around Gwen's thin waist. "Used to them, yes. But fond, indeed not. I much prefer parties nearer home," he replied.

"You smell like roses," Edmund interrupted Fawn's train of thought. Without looking up, she replied softly, "Rosewater."
"Ah. Sweet and simple." He twirled her gently. No more was said. The two continued this way for the remainder of the dance: she with her head on his shoulder, enjoying the moment; he with his fingers entwined in hers while he was deep in thought.

Peter turned his head towards the voice. The mask limited his vision to strictly in front of him. He hadn't noticed anyone. "Linnet?" Her voice was familiar to him by now.

"Are you not near to home?" Gwen asked with a nervous laugh.

Linnet jerked her head in his direction. "Sir Peter?" She added the title in case it wasn't him. She took a step towards him, hesitant and hoping.

"Oh, I am very near home. The nearest I have been in several years," William replied. He twirled Gwen around. She was a delightful dancer so far, and it pleased him that she was as talkative as she was lovely.

Mariah stood up and left Jephry standing alone. She very nearly marched over to Audric and said sweetly, "My dear, it has been quite a while since I have seen you dance, much less dance with you," she hinted loudly.

Richard enjoyed himself surprisingly very much as he danced with one lovely damsel after another.
Redd, meanwhile, was passing his time in a slightly different manner. With a glass of the rich spiced wine in hand, he wandered around watching everyone. Barely a thought in his head of the girl he had poisoned, he was enjoying this party that he had come uninvited to.

Gwen was breathing heavily by the time the song had ended. "Do you travel often?" She asked innocently. She had hopes to meet the young man again. He was quite intriguing.

Audric glanced up at Mariah. "I never was much good at it." He grumbled.

Peter smiled and lifted his mask. "I didnt think you had come." Every inch of him tingled with the excitement of seeing his love.

"I was only traveling on behalf of the king," William replied. He bowed deeply when the song ended, then continued. "But now that that business away has ended mostly, I have been permitted to settle down for a while. I only just returned last week," he explained as he led her to the edge of the room.

Fawn didn't want the music to end, yet it did, seemingly very soon. Edmund led her away from the couples already forming for the next dance. He held onto her hand a moment after they had stopped by the tables, and he looked to be deep in thought still. "Thank you for the dance, Lady Fawn," he said with a smile. He then turned on his heel and walked away. Fawn didn't have time to dwell on the sweet memories just made, for Sir Richard came and asked for the next dance. She quietly consented only because it would rude to refuse.

Mariah frowned and walked away without replying. Kings, such troublesome things.

Linnet blushed deeply, happy and so very pleased to see him. He didn't think she had come, meaning he hadn't noticed her earlier with Sir. Richard. She crossed the floor to him, stopping when she was less than an arm's length away. "Well, I did," she smiled softly at him. She untied her mask so she could see him better.

Katrina watched her eat for a minute then left the stable and went around the corner. There was a well nearby, so she, with a mug she had taken from the kitchen, went to the well and pulled up the bucket. Cupping her hands, she immersed them in the bucket and then drank from them. The cool water tickled her throat. Once she had had her fill, she filled up the mug and returned to the strange warrior woman. "I fetched ye some water," she stated.

" Thank you so very much," choked out Herja between mouthfuls. Pausing her ravenous eating, she washed down the last mouthfuls with a deep draught before returning to the food. She ate until she nearly licked the basket clean. Grateful, she leaned back against the pile of straw. " That was the best meal I've had in a long while. There's only so long one can live on biscuits and jerky..." she trailed off. Her shipmates were probably dead. She was a stranger in a strange land. But, at least there was a roof over her head. And her belly was full. " Thank you again, miss."

Katrina beamed, happy to have someone so pleased with a simple basket of food. "Tis a pleasure to serve any weary traveler," she said. Any fear of the stranger that she had had was gone now. This woman was simply hungry and tired, needing food and a place for the night. "If ye want to bed down in that stall, I don't think you'll be disturbed. I doubt the family will be back before dawn."

"I wish I could travel." Gwen complained as William lead her across the room. "Father wont hardly let me leave the castle.

"H-how have you been?" Peter stuttered nervously.

William turned to face her. "It's not much more exciting than anything you'd find around here," he said. "Since we're supposed to be keeping up our anonymity, I won't ask who your father is, though I am sorely tempted to," he grinned.

"I've been better," Linnet replied. She glanced through the windows of the porch door. "Shall we go to the end of the porch?" She asked. "We can talk more privately ove there." Having not seen him in a couple weeks, she wanted this little moment together to be solitary and without worry of someone seeing them.

Gwen rolled her large green eyes. "Yes because our table placements make it very hard to distinguish who is who." She said sarcastically.

Peter nodded. Lacing his fingers with hers, he lead her to the elegantly carved banister.

William stared at her for a second before a broad smile slowly spread across his face. He chuckled, a little louder than he intended, and crossed his arms. "Well then, miss, my goal tonight is to discover your identity without you saying a word about it," he said jovially.

Edmund spotted the princess from where he stood near the entrance. She looked to be having a good time. Crossing the floor, he came and waited nearby her, waiting for a pause in her conversation with her latest partner.

Linnet happily allowed him to lead her. This end of the porch was cast in shadows, the torch having been blown out by the wind.

(Hey Kat, you wanna come inside for a little bit? XD )

Richard finally tired of dancing. He took a seat, unknowingly, nearly beside the king. He slowly sipped whatever a servant had given him in a goblet and surveyed the room.
