*The Verge of War* A Medieval Rp

:)P is that really so surprising?)
Alfric followed her lead, ducking as he passed under the doorway. He noted her use of the word 'remember', choosing not to respond to her, but to walk silently beside her instead.
(Nah, guess not)

The path did indeed split as Fawn had said. She had already thought ahead for if it did split, so rather than stopping to consider their options, she turned left and kept walking. "Left, twenty-five paces, then right," she muttered to herself as they went along.

The tunnel had begun to grow cooler, or was that just him? He turned to face the girl and considered asking her, but the look on her face was enough to make him change his mind. He fumbled mindlessly around in his pockets, maybe the owner of the sgian had stashed something else in there. After a few moments of searching he sighed, and glanced over at the torch, throwing yellow light on the pale hand clasped around it. He realised then that he had just handed his one means of defence over to a stranger, and felt instantly stupid once again. If need be, he could easily overpower her, she was only a girl after all, probably some kid - a servant most likely. Somehow this thought didn't make him feel any easier.

"This castle is full of tunnels and secret rooms," Fawn said. "Sir Edmund's father had them built after the last siege that almost lost the castle, but by the time they were finished there was never a need for them," she explained. The dark passage turned right and she went with it.

Alfric turned with her, looking around him at the cold, stone walls which surrounded them. "How long is it?" He asked.

"This passage? I'm not exactly sure. Some have dead ends, but there's always a side door or something," Fawn said. She ducked under a spider web to avoid getting it stuck all over her face. "Watch out for that," she nodded towards it, then continued on.

Alfric had begun wheezing, this walk was becoming more and more difficult by the minute. When she ducked, he didn't. Walking straight into the cobweb and then proceeding to panic and claw at his face, the sticky strands of web clinging desperately to his hair.
After his brief outburst he paused and lent against the wall.
"I need to know.. Where we're going." He exhaled.

"Out, obviously," Fawn replied. The dust was irritating her throat as well but there was no need to point it out. "Or we can just stay here and die of heat, lack of air, lack of food, or dehydration. Your choice," she laughed lightly. The tunnel was gradually getting narrower, a fact she didn't wish to share with the lad yet. She still didn't know his name, but she didn't really care to know, for in theory they would get out and never see each other ever again.

Alfric sighed and reluctantly began to follow, each step heavier than the last.
"At this rate I'm going to die anyway." He mumbled. "Our light will die out soon too." He began coughing again, clearing his throat of dust.

Fawn stopped in mid step and swung the torch around, barely missing Alfric's face. "I think this may lead out, or at least to another passage," she said. She held the light up to a crack in the wall and traced it around with her finger, stopping at a protruding handle-like stone. "Try it," she said quietly.

Alfric looked suspiciously at Fawn, then slowly reached out grabbed the stone handle. It was cold and rough, and didn't seem to want to move. He readjusted his grip and yanked harder. "It won't budge." He said. "Help me with it."
