Hi!
So, my siblings and I share a phone.
We probably have thousands of pictures.
We’ve gotten to a point where the phone is fully out of storage, and even deleting all the random pictures of someone’s finger or shoe isn’t really making a difference.
They want me to sacrifice my chicken pictures, so that we can keep our 451 memes. I don’t mind making sacrifices for the family, but I think almost everyone on here would understand why I will never, in a decamillion years, delete my chicken pictures.

So, basically, what I’m asking is:
If I upload all my chicken pictures into albums in the the media section, and then delete them from the photos app, will the website still store them?
I probably have at least 500 chicken pictures…. 🤣😇🥹😍

Technically, yes. As to whether or not The Mods and The Owners of BYC would like BYC being used as a chicken photo backup, that's a different story. I don't know if BYC compresses photos in the gallery, but if they do you'll also lose photo quality.

I recommend copying the photos onto an external hard drive or your computer. If your phone has a microSD card slot, you can get one and copy your photos onto that instead.

There are USB sticks with a USB-C end for most modern smartphones, you can also copy them there. I'd get one from a reputable brand like Samsung, SanDisk, or Kingston. Make sure it's got enough storage for all of your photos.

Or get cloud storage. That might be a better option if you have that much stuff that you need to offload that fast onto something else.

If you have lots of apps on your phone, delete the ones you don't use or need, especially if they are large apps (games and the such).

Ok, that makes sense!
Thanks!
Yeah, I didn’t even think about how BYC being used as a storage base might not be appreciated by the folks running the place!😅

I had just figured that it seemed like a safe place for them since this is the main time I use them.

Many of us have tons of pictures in the Gallery ;).

If you upload pictures, they will not be deleted.

It does.

@TheChickenGirl16, do you have a Google account? BYC will resize your images, so it would be best to upload them to a computer or online storage.

I have a lot of pictures stored on an external hard drive which has 1TB of storage on it. It's a Toshiba, so it was a little pricey, but I can plug it into my phone, tablet, or computer at any time and use the photos on it.

On my phone, I have a Google Photos backup for everything. Because my Google was getting full, I now pay to have more storage (which I can have up to five accounts on that plan) which isn't bad.

You can add everything to our Gallery, and even have Albums to organize your pictures, but that does compress the photos, which can be a problem when you're entering contests like the BYC Calendar contest which requires the original full-sized pictures to be uploaded.

As with anything though, I do highly recommend having backup on everything. You don't want to delete everything off your phone just to realize that the "everything" wasn't backed up properly.

Also, with storage things like this (this is coming from someone who has had plenty of storage issues), deleting your photos won't free up that much space, or at least for long. Eventually that space will be filled back up, and it won't take as many pictures that you deleted to do so. With most things that have storage, every picture deleted still has some "memory" it's taking up even though it's gone. I don't know why it is like that, but I've seen it on anything from phones to memory cards. In the end, you'll just eventually need to replace the phone because you'll end up with nothing on the phone but no storage to even run anything.
