Edmund looked from the lad to the storage, wondering if one of the scullery maids was going to investigate the shaking door. No one seemed to notice it or care, so he finally interrupted the talkative freckled face boy. "Will, that's one of the store rooms, is it not?" He inquired. The book nodded his affirmation. "'Tis, sir. I swept it yesterday, I swear!" He said, wide eyed.
"Then James won't mind if I check," Edmund said as he walked over. The majority of the kitchen servants and the cook, James, were at the other end of the room, finishing up preparations for the third course. Will followed reluctantly, praying hard that no one had made a mess of the floor since his sweeping of the room. Edmund placed his hand on the knob and tried to turn it, but it refused. "It's locked," he stated. Will looked up at him then over to where the cook was. "Oh, mister James was afeared someone would try to sneak somethin during all the busyness, so he locked it tight, he did," he explained, finishing with a toothy grin.
"Go fetch the key for me, then," Edmund said. Will hurried off without a word. While he was begging the key from James, Edmund waitied impatiently by the door.
