The waiting is killing me- a missing chicken.

Glad I am not the only one who obsesses over their flock. But they def do work their way into your hearts!!! I have one (Mrs. Cuddlesworth) who literally comes to me when I call her name, and then if I bend down and open my arms, she walks right on in and waits to be picked up. You can't help but get attached.

I am also impulsive and do things without thinking sometimes. I find I fret awhile over my decision but soon settle down and realize it will all eventually work out.

Take a deep breath and remember, this too shall pass.

Husband called- he did lock them in the run today before he left for work. That's only happened ONCE before and they were not happy. I hope that they don't take it out on poor Silvia. Husband reminded me that Friz was much more attached to Silvia that Silvia was to Friz. I guess that's something. I'm fighting the urge to say I'm sick and go home. I'm working at home tomorrow, so I'll be able to keep a close eye on everyone.

I really do appreciate the support. My friends are tiring of my chicken drama.

Ok, I have 2 basement silkies. The flock rejected them and too late in the year to build a silkie coop. They have been there for 3-4 weeks. They are 2 tiny girls and are living on one of my grow light areas about 4x4. They don't smell and seem happy. It's not the best situation but it will work till april when I will need that area. One is still pretty bald from the flock so I wouldn't feel right putting her out even if I had another coop. If you get another silkie, this is one idea. Also my secrete plan for getting another coop!

Thanks, Cheri. If Silvia doesn't do well, I'll do that too. I built Silvia and Friz a pen in the pen- with a little door that they could dart into quickly if they needed to- when I introduced them into the flock in September. They were hanging out in there on Sunday, though they were like a mini-flock within the big flock for the most part. I have no idea how she'll do on her own. She really can't even keep up with the others!

Maybe I'll email the lady that I got her from "just in case".

You know... I believe that Silvia is your pet. All my chickens in one way are another are my pets, just as my dogs and cats are. We could have the livestock vs pet discussion, but I'm not. I don't cull, I'm not a serious breader, and I go to the store and by my eating chickens. So, yes mine are pets.

I hope she comes back for you.

Baralak- I am treading this thin line right now! I am trying to tell myself- LIVESTOCK and not pets. But, it's futile. They have names, I cry when they die and I spend hours worrying about them. We don't eat our friends either. I have NO issue with eating chickens. Just not mine, thankyouverymuch. We did have to cull one that was dying. (It wasn't a real "cull" however. More of a assisted suicide.) I was very proud of us for making the decision to end her suffering.

I just sat through this Big Meeting and the entire time I was thinking: how can I get a hold of that woman that I bought Silvia from? 3 little silkie bantams won't be an issue. I have that big dog crate and it won't be THIS cold all the time. Heck, I can set them up in the coop in a little enclosure after a few weeks!

I'm hopeless. Who knows. Maybe Friz will be there when we get home?

Yep, you have the disease too. Chickenitis (does it have a name). Hello, my name is Sharol. I am a chickenholic.

Two of my girls went missing in the same night...i believe raccoon....anyway one showed up almost five days later. She was injured and traumatized but now, some weeks later, she is almost ready to return to the coop! Maybe Friz is gone totally but just know she could still come crawling back. It is best to assume the worst but look around for her for a few days in case she is injured somewhere like mine was.

newchick- I have not stopped thinking ALL DAY that she's going to come screaming over to my car when I get home this afternoon. She's a real talker and comes running when she's called. I really, really hope to see her silly frizzle head.
