The watermelon addiction

My duck Vinny loves it when we give him watermelon.... He goes bonkers!

I like to make sure there is enough watermelon to get us through winter!

My ducks just got watermelon for the 1st time the other day. ( I know I know... I was slow) I could not BELIEVE how much of it they ate. Down to thin pieces of skin. I didn't pick it all up right away and the next day all of the little pieces of skin were in their pools. They played with those suckers all day and weren't happy when I took them out and threw them away.

The muscovy didn't seem impressed. They picked at it a little and finally ate a little when they realized they weren't getting greens or peas... but they looked at me like, "Really, lady! Where's the good stuff?" I swear all my muscovy are so stuck up.

Mine love watermelon too. Just one thing I will warn you about........ watch out if the watermelon is over ripe. My husband brought some home and 2 of my ducks got schnockered! yep, 3 sheets to the wind. They were so drunk they couldn't stand up. They finally sobered up and haven't gone near the compost pile since.

Mine love watermelon too. Problem is my white hens and java's get covered in red and they get so dirty. lol But I buy them watermelons at the farmers market when they are super cheap. I also love watermelon on a hot day.

Do they like the seeds? I am now imagining great fun teaching them to catch the seeds I spit.

Someone say watermellons? Can't wait for these to ripen. I will def share with the girls.
