I recommend that you invest in multiple thermometers. I had a failed hatch the first time because the therm that came with it was not accurate.

I don't know what kind you got. I got one that is on the low end of the price scale (probably on the performance scale too

) But I went ahead and left the one in there that came with it. I also used a digital stick therm that I inserted through a tiny airhole and I would just turn it on now an then to check the temp on that thermometer. And we also got a therm/humidity reader that is sold in the lizard sections of the pet stores. It has 2 sensors on wires with the indicator at the other end. The wires are so small they can just be threaded through the lid. I read all three therms and they all had different temperature readings. Shows how accurate or inaccurate they may be. But also it showed me how the incubator could be different temps in different spots in the incubator because it doesn't have a fan. Once I got the temperature set to where I was getting good development I knew I had the right temperature for this particular incubator. The funny thing was, the thermometer that came with it was reading about 102.5 when I was getting good development and had successful hatching.

Ok, I still haven't set up my incubator. I have a broody hen and after seeing so many cute pics of baby chicks poking out from underneath mom on other sites, thought it would be fun to see if she can hatch some chicks. I bought 12 eggs and put them in with her. So far, so good I think!

Ohhh i can't wait to
See how thst goes! Broody cochin again lol u gonna separate her? what breeds

We didn't separate her and that may have been a mistake. One egg got broken and she threw one out, so we're down to ten. Also, when she leaves her nest, other hens hop in to lay their eggs. Then she ends up in another nest with eggs that aren't fertilized and her fertilized ones are in a nest with no hen. I kicked her out of a wrong next today hoping she would hop back into the right nest and she did. I'm sure hoping for baby chicks around the 8th, but just not too sure. Next time I'll separate her.

She's a Black Star and so far out of my flock of White Laced Wyandottes, a Barred Rock and a few New Hampshires, she's been the only one to go broody.
