Frizzle you alwYs say that chickens have big combs when they are normal, your chicks comb is still to small to tell, if I were to go by colour I would say roo but the comb is to small to tell by it

Howdy! I just added two Welsummers to our flock from Aden's in Mesa, Arizona. They are just a bit older than the other 6 chicks we added so I'm hoping it balances out the power play. They are beautiful birds and I can't wait to add their choco colored eggs to the mix.

Welsummers and Easter Eggers, about 5 months old. Mouthy gives me the stink-eye daily. This week the beta rooster decided to probe he was a "man" sigh, at least they seem to get along with each other

I think Welsummer boys are so pretty! Hens have their own unique flair too. And I love the way they are so easy to sex at a day old! Think they'd look good on an angus farm? Thinkin' of some for next year...

Announcement! I am officially a Welsummer Keeper today!

I got 6 chicks last night at an auction. I was actually surprised to see so many of them there. I lost my first one to a hawk 2 weeks ago so this is a pleasant and exciting surprise for me to find them locally. I think 2 are girls, out of those one is a "maybe".

1-This is my "maybe-girl" on the left...dark back stripes, eyeliner, and a doubious head marking. You can see the "sure" sister is on the right.



2-Here is sister by herself (above)

3-And a brother's little head.

Also, the wings on 5 of them are 2 different lengths, but the "for sure girl" has even wing feathers...in other words, fast feathers...

I hope some of you Welsummer experts can shed some light....

I have a chick that I purchased as a Welsummer, but her feathers are growing in differently than my other chicks. First they seemed to curl, but I was cuddling with her tonight and it seems like some of them are growing in upside-down?? I don't have a pic yet, but does anyone have a frizzle Welsummer to compare? Or does anyone know what could be causing the strange feather growth?
