The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Finally, after all these years....

1000

I get to start a small flock of Welsummers.

Awww! Adorable. I would enjoy seeing pictures as they grow. I keep looking for a pullet. I found my cockerel first.

The chicks are just a bit over 2 weeks old and it is so nice to have a little group of chicks again.

I like the older girls, and I love the eggs that they produce...but I enjoy working with the chicks and training them.

They are in an enclosed pen most of the time... The only Neighbors are wellies too

It is a roo. I have been getting some that look like that as well along with a tad darker ones. These are from the same hens as well.

Yes invest in a "dutch or holland" heater. It radiates heat from the top down. and put them outside in a protected crate. I love this method. All my chicks seemed to thrive in the fresh air and normal lighting conditions. It just worked so much better than trying to keep them in the house under constant heat lamps. I love this heater, it was well worth the expense. And I think the normal lighting really helps them. Good luck. I have eleven hens now. Six grown from chicks, and five grown from pullets.I live in NC and they were "outside" over the winter.

What makes you think cockerel? It has a nicely defined V but no strong eyeliner as a girl should have for easy auto-sexing at hatch. How old? Maybe a wait and see on this one...

The lack of eyeliner and the comb, also no tail feathers and wing feathers, both tail and wing feathers are less developed than some of the others. I'm super new to this so just taking a stab in the dark ;)
