morning everyone ..i got a couple pics of what i think is my wellie cockrel ..can you all tell me what you think..

he had green stuff on his head when we got him ..there was a green stuff on the bottom of the box when i opened it ..or i thought maybe they put it on his head to identify him , so i would no which one he was ..eather way tell me your opinion ..he is very laided back and kind of shy to my hand when i reach in ..altho i have a couple that walk right up to my hand ..he tends to stay back in the crowd ..lol

i no i read it said the ones with the fuzzy looking markings and his are more so then any others ..

oh one more question..can baby chicks from other breeds look like each other..can a welsummer chick look like a chick say from the Wyandotte or orpinton or australop breeds..just wondering ..

thanks for the help ..

Hello there,
I have an opportunity to get some welsummer chicks mid May. Everything I read about them is wonderful, the only negative I have read in a. Purple places says that they love an average of nine years but only lay for three. Is this true or do they just mean they slow down at age three.
What experiences have you all had?
I had a five year old hen that laid everyday until she turned five, laid every other day until around eight years old? she passed on. Calicowoods lines.

From what you are reading, sounds like a hatchery bird or just that particular bird that decided to go hen-o-pause.

I would say cockerel. Hatcheries commonly mark cockerels with a color to identify them. Based just on head markings looks like boy to me. And yes Welsummers can look like other breeds of chickens. If they have a partridge pattern as adults, the chicks will look similar to other breeds. Not exact but very similar.
