The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Well, my chickens had a brand new coop built for them inside my shed before I got them. I take extremely good care of them. Everything is always kept clean and they are fed well and given fresh water every day and I put nutria-drench in it. Anyone can get a lemon in anything they have. All of my other chickens are very healthy and happy. Not sure what the Welsummers problem was and we don't have chicken vets around here. Maybe she had nothing to do with congestion, she had a hoarse voice that didn't sound like the others. The Sebright was not a cold weather bird. She was healthy and energetic and I should have housed or done something different with her.

i use a product called vetrx..it works real well on birds with colds or raspy coughs ..runny noses .congestion .it comes in a little bottle and a little goes along way ..you can spray your flock if its a large flock or you can rub it on each bird .under the wings and around their neck waddle and i put it on the comb as well ..its like vapor rub for animals ..i use it on my cat as well..but it helps with their breathing and clears the throat and congestion.. ...you may want to try something like that ..it really works well ..you can also use it on scally legs and feet too..you can google it ..most tractor stores were they sell feed will have it ...in the chicken feed area..its made for chickens but folks use it for alot of animals ..

what kind of litter are you using ..straw , wood shavings ..?? if its shavings , make sure its not cedar shavings or chips ..

I use pine shavings, the large flakes. I have read everything about chickens and also asked at TSC which was best. Thanks a lot for the advice. I almost grabbed a bottle of that today when I got supplies and now I wish I had. One other bird has a hiccup and I had no idea you could put it on their body and it would help. I appreciate the info and wish I had had it sooner.
