The Welsummer Thread!!!!

For the Welsummer experts out there, this is Meatball, she was a mystery chick at the feed store, to cute not to take home, but I've been trying to figure out what she is since I brought her home, could she be a Welsummer? This is her at 4 1/2 weeks.

This is her at 3 weeks, Tansy, My Cuckoo Maran is on the left.

This is my first Spring with chickens, so any thoughts are appreciated! Thank you!

We have 2 Wels (5 weeks & 2 days old) but since we're new to being a chicken family, we decided to just go with a hatchery (Meyer's). I'm not expecting these gals to be top of the bloodline show quality but I am hoping that they are somewhat true to the breed and not just a random chickie mated with a wannabe labeled Wels. Either way though it won't matter, they're my gals.

I can not tell you what she is, but I can tell you that she is NOT a welsummer. Possibly Americana...???

Is he large fowl? He looks more Gold Laced Wyandotte to me?
hes not a wyandotte ..i have wyandottes and hes missing the rose comb ..and the colors are all wrong ..he looks like a wellie except that wing and leg color.....shame he lost the bloodline he was working with ..and with folks being less then honest makes it even worse ..

I don't think she is an Ameriaucana or Easter egger because of the leg color. I had ordered both willies and Easter Eggers in a hatchery order andinitially the color of their legs was the only way I could tell them apart.

I think you've got an Easter Egger! Easter Eggers can have ANY leg color, depending on their genetic makeup (all Easter Eggers are hybrids of any two breeds, with at least one carrying blue egg genes).

Her legs look a little pale to be a Wellie... have you looked at any of the Marans breeds? Check out this wheaten Marans chick (not mine). The feather colors are right (though the eye markings are not right):

It will help if you find out what hatchery the store orders from, and cross-reference the breeds they hatch. Best of luck!

May I add that bird has no leg feathers so I dont think its a marans. It so hard to tell cuz any partridge colored bird has a roo that looks like that...I think
