Such handsome boys Lester!

That would be something that Pink Chick and Tailfeathers would say to each other!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! It was that way yesterday and the day before! It is 23*F now. Sun is out and hopefully it will reach above temps.

Congrats Pink, hopefully they will all make it by tomorrow when everone is out of their shells!

I have one LF Wellie girl and she just started laying gorgeous eggs. I would like to know if the bantys eggs are as dark as the big girls?

Welcome New2peeps!
Wish I could be of more assistance, but here's what I think I know. lol Welsummer Bantams are suppose to lay a dark egg just like the LF, but, I think I read somewhere that this is something being worked on in the US..the egg color for bantams. If this is wrong.....PLEASE, anyone feel free to set me straight. Hopefully EweSheep, Tailfeathers or Gamebirdsonly will swing by and help us out here.

Congratulations on the new layer. It's always eggciting!

5 hatched! Looks like 2 boys for sure, possibly 3 waiting for little sneaky Pete to finish drying out. I don't think that the egg that accidentally made it into the fridge is going to hatch. We will see. 27 out of 38 so far. #28,29,30 and 31 are half way here!
Once everyone is dried off I will get some fuzzy butt pics up here!

*edited to say, sorry I miscounted here*

What gorgeous roos! I have room for just the six pensioners that I have, but I am so sorry that I passed up Welsummers. After I read about them and saw their beautiful eggs, I could have kicked myself. Orschelns kept running out of chicks so I didn't have a big choice when I bought mine. I am so glad that all of you are breeding (your chickens).

I know that my RIR from the hatchery is not really a RIR. She is my favorite though.

Well #6 fridge baby has pipped. Yahoooooooie! That will make 31!

Unfortunately the LF and BF eggs do NOT look alike.....there is room for improvement and we will try to get there in a couple of generations or so. It is a fairly new breed. My Bantams are the German lines.

Here is a pic of the Welsummer eggs for comparison:

I have another Welsummer breeder that we are hoping he will import more Bantams from Netherlands and hopefully their egg shells will be darker than the US ones.
