Oh no! I am so sorry! I hate that when it happens! It really sucks when they are almost getting there and bam, you got hit! Happened to me once almost wiping out my entire flock of Faverolles due to a pit bull dog and chow dog.

Neighbors dog is a pitbull. They have 4 of them. After several complaints from the homeowners association they finally made an enclosure for them, but a lot of good it does when they let all of them out in the morning when their kids walk down to the bus stop, the dogs always follow, and make a b-line through my property to go home once their kids have boarded the bus. I have borrowed a rifle and I am ready to do what has to be done to protect my birds, even though I don't like the thought of it. Wished I had been here maybe I would have heard the commotion and been able to save them. I called the Sheriffs office and the humane society both told me how to handle the situation and that I must have proof, hence the video surveillance. I will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law once I have proof.
Several homeowners have approached these people but of course their dogs would never do anything like that as they were raised on a farm with horses, chickens and goats. Ohh...okay well that makes it all better!

Well on a better note I have welsummer chicks hatching this morning. So far I have eight out and I am hoping a few more hatch. These will be my start to welsummers.I am very excited as these eggs were the prettiest welsummer eggs I have ever seen. Now I have got the hard part in raising these little buggers up.

Nothing makes me madder having dogs roaming at loose!

With mine, the pit bull and chow took off the coop door, tearing out the hardware wire. Yep, it took the screening off and took the doors off from the hinges as well! I don't blame you for wanting to shoot and protect your birds!

That is horrible. I hope you don't have any more attacks, but then again if you do I hope you get the preditor or video proof. I would shoot also if in your position. I wonder how many other neighbor's critters have been attacked?

PinkChick - I am so sorry to hear about the rampage and damage to your flock. It does sound like domestic dog attack from your description. I hope you can get proof enough to get those dogs put down.

Pink Chick, so sorry to hear about your loss. That is horrible! Let us know how it turns out. Interested to find out what surveillance system you get and how well it works. Might want to invest in something like that.

JamesA, CONGRATS!!! New babies how exciting! Yes we must have pics soon! I think pics of the beautiful eggs you spoke about as well is a great idea! Can't wait to see them!
