No, I can not justify paying that much unless it was recently imported or bantams.

The going rate of non hatchery Welsummers are around 15 to 25 dollars for pullet in POL and cockerels much less.

Ewesheep, you have beautiful birds, I'm surprised they don't bring a higher price. I'm getting new roos from Tailfeathers this Fall but I have been contemplating getting eggs from you for roos for the 2012 hatch.

Hello Welsummer lovers!

I have just gotten my first chickens and they were hatched from a "grab bag" of eggs from a breeder that has Welsummers. Four of the chicks I was given appear to be the same breed and I think that they are the Wellies - but I thought I would bring it to the experts here to let me know. I have looked through the whole thread and seen pictures of wee babies, juvies and adults but I have 3 week olds - so nothing I have found has been helpful.

If I prove not to be Wellies I will remove this post from this list without delay.

Is there any way to tell if they are girls or boys at this stage?

They look like wellies to me- but I haven't seen chicks in a while

You can tell the boys about now- they will start getting dark feathers on their chest. Girls will only have the salmon color there. Looks like at least 2 boys from the pics.

Nope, not Welsummers. Wellie chicks have a chipmunk type pattern on their back that goes up on top of their head. The pullet chicks will have eye markings that look like Tammy Faye Baker put eye shadow on them.

As the fuzz falls out those markings go way, but you can still see traces of it until they are fully feathered.

It is hard to say what they are. They appear to be a lighter colored but not white or buff. The single comb and yellow shanks are pretty easy to see. What color of egg did it hatch from? Can you give us a list of possible breeds?

This breeds list can help you narrow it down some.

Generally, except perhaps for people on this board, people in WV don't expect to pay large prices for chickens.
