The Welsummer Thread!!!!

My RIR red chicks are much darker than those pictured above. And they have no speckling, or at least not much.

I am not good at photography.

Yep, those are production RIRs not show birds. I knew I had a show bird in that brooder but I couldn't find her for the pictures. She is darker and her Partridge markings are much cleaner. I saw her when I was feeding later in the evening. I'll be watching for her when I'm filling RIR orders because I want to keep her for brood stock.

I have read alot about welsummers and wanted to get some that will lay nice dark eggs.

I ordered from Okiehen. There are 11 huge dark eggs in the incubator right now. This is day 12. I can't wait for them to hatch!!!

I was so pleased with the eggs, I ordered more to put in the bator when these go to the brooder

Well my Wellsummer eggs are dark but not all that huge. In fact, I got some nice Golden Comets (sex link) to get some bigger eggs. So I will remember where you got some nice big Wellie eggs!

i've been looking for some dark eggers for awhile and was hoping for some marans but i decided on wellies instead. i just picked up 2 possibly 3 wellies from another byc member who got them from welp hatchery. i was surprised to even find someone in my area that actually purchased them let alone would sell me some. i am hoping to get some more but i don't have a bator, so getting eggs is not for me, unless i force 1 of my other hens broody. do any of you wellie breeders sell chicks?

Ok I dont want anyone to be made at me but I have two Banty Welsummer chicks and they are crazy birds, they are only two weeks old and when you go to feed them they act like I want to kill them. Is this the breed or the age?
