I really like the pictures, it was worth your work. The babies look so healthy and I can almost see them scurrying around getting into everywhere. Hope moma can round then up !

Nope, I could not figure out which is which LOL! They were almost all the same size LOL!

Other than that, I can see some females in that lot.

As for rounding up the babies, she had her fair share of being upset when the chicks were on the other side of the fence. Then I had to rush out and get that chick and put it with her. Once she sees that chick, she came after ME! LOL!

Here is a pointer to tell the bantams from the LF.

LF: Look at the beak, it is almost short and curved. It reminds me of like an "owl" beak.

BF: Longer and not as curved.

Once you take a look at them you will be able to tell... I can usually tell when the birds are 7-14 days old, which is when they get moved from their brooder boxes to the floor.

Hey Nate, I was just at Osceola a few weeks ago. I was hoping I would have had time to contact and visit you but of course I did not. Someday though to see your welsummers and buckeyes. Parents and sisters live there.

Hey thanks for the tip! I went out to get a closer look and I did see a difference in beak sizes. With all of them running around, I saw two bantams and rest of them LF....in due time I will sit down and wait at night time, all will be in crate and then in the morning I can pull out EACH chick and go from there to see what exactly I have.

They are doing well, those scatterbutts! LOL!

Buff eye, you should have gone there and brought back a few Wellies for your flock. Maybe Nate will have a few for sale later on!

Greetings! Another new Welsummer fan here. Have 5 6-week chicks (3 hens, 2 roosters...I think). Have a nice roomy 4x6 coop for them and a 4x5 covered run.

Some newbie questions:

- Is the run (20 sq feet) going to be big enough or should I expand it? I'm thinking of doubling it in size to 4x10 (40 sq ft)?
- If I do, in fact, have 2 roosters will it be a problem with just 3 hens?
- I've heard welsummer roosters are typically not mean - has that been others' experience?

thanks!
