The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hi Hens!

Is it possible to change the size of the photo? That would really help....need to see them a little closer.
Yes it is possible that the Wellie laid a darker egg than the Cuckoo Marans, help me out I can't remember, you have Cuckoo Marans from a hatchery right? Did they both just start laying?

Can you put one in the cage for 24 hours to see if it lays an egg? Or if that caged one didn't lay an egg, the other one would.....so that would tell you which one is theirs.

I am GUESSING that the egg on the left is the Welsummers.

I agree with EweSheep, I think that the egg on the left may be the Wellie egg. If the egg on the right is the Cuckoo Marans egg and those birds are from a hatchery......that is one of the nicest Cuckoo eggs I have seen. I will patiently waiting to see what you come up with.
The cage for 24 hours is a very good idea Robin!

Thank you Hens for changing the size of the photo, it really helped. They are both very pretty eggs!

Your welsummer hen(s) that are laying, where are they from? Bloodlines?

Nate

We hatched them from eggs that HappyMtn sent to us, so I don't know, maybe she'll respond

If this is the right one, she said it was breeders birds, I am GUESSING Whitmore Farms.....I hope she does respond.

Oh, ok... Just from what I have heard about Whitmore birds - the eggs are smaller and lighter than some of the other lines out there.

Hens and Roos - Was there a resemblence in the eggs I sent you and the ones from her, or was there a difference?

Nate

Okay, I have put the 2 older Welsummer girls in the pen with the babies we hatched from you Nate, that way we can see who is laying what. Of course with yesterday being trick or treat for the kids I ended up moving them this am and of course there was already 2 brown eggs like the picture I posted a few posts above waiting in the community nesting box.... so hopefully tomorrow we will know who lays what egg! I looked back at the pictures we took and found one of the eggs HappyMtn sent to us... but for what ever reason I can't find a picture of the eggs we got from Nate. So I am posting the eggs from HappyMtn. From looking at that picture and looking at what we are getting, the dark egg on the bottom left of the 4 Welsummer eggs looks similar to ours. Let me know what you think...
