The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I've just read over the standard and have a question I hope someone can answer. One of my 3 girls has a funny toe on one foot. (funny 'strange' not funny 'ha ha'). She didn't have it as a chick, but we noticed it one day when she was about 4 months old. The toe on the outside of her right foot curls back instead of being straight. Is this considered a flaw? I don't plan on ever showing, but don't want to represent her as the standard if she isn't...

Of course in all other areas, she is the one I tend to favour...sigh

Can you send us a picture?

It could have been broken at one point and healed itself. My Calicowood hen hung herself on the corner of a cage upside down and she looked at me like "get me off"! The end of her toe looked pale and twisted but the damage was done. After it healed, she now has a curled end toe.

As long it is not bent from the knuckles or joints as a chick, it is possible she could have broken it or some kind of nutrional deficency somewhere. If this is the case, then no worries!

If looking for Erhard specifically....try looking up kummerpoultry and see what you get. I have the info somewhere but no time to get to it. Yes he has a website that shows all of the breeds that he works with. One day when I grow up lol.....I'm getting some of his Mahogany Orloffs! Yummy!
edited to add: just type in kummerpoultryfarm it pops right up.

Even if they do hatch with crooked toes in a hatch from the incubator - it could be incubator issues - very common with the table top incubators if not kept perfect. Who knows!

I also breed welsummers in LF and Bantam - and ship Chicks and Eggs. Robin has some of my birds! ;-)

I have not shipped to Canada yet, but I know someone who has, and im sure he could walk me through the steps. You would be the first to have these rare bantams of this bloodline in cananda.
