Getting with Nate on becoming a Secretary for the club......I am trying to figure out what your job entails to be besides promoting the Welsummers. Once we do decide, we can figure out how we can put your name out on the WCNA Facebook and here for votes.

I do not think there will be a Treasurer because there ARE no funds for this club. All volunteer jobs.

And I would like to make a "Mentor/Advisory Council Members" sort of a guidance panel of people that would suggest, advise, and help us get on the right track in helping the club and their wealth of knowledge would greatly benefit the club. The people I have in mind are: Royce VanBlaricome, Andre Van't Weistande, Erhard Wiehls and any old breeders can help along....I am trying to get John Hall and Channing to come into the picture but I think they rather be behind the curtains for now.

Great idea! Im hoping that andre can judge my bantams when he comes up here - I think I have selected the best stock for breeders. I am also going to be taking pictures and sending them over to some top breeders over in holland. Since my birds are RECENT(08 and 10) imports from holland, I am planning on keeping them bred to the UK/Netherlands standard. Which is not much different from the USA standard - more black in breast - but the SOP APA does not say exactly how much you can have - just says some MOTTLING. Also, the shaft of the feather is a littler darker over there - but the SOP APA says lighter shaft? Well how light? Lighter than the rest of the feather - lighter doesent nexessarily mean WHITE, in my opionion.

I love this idea Robin!!!!!!! All of these folks would be great as mentors.

My chickies are 10 weeks old this morning and my little Wellie boy is trying to crow. Lucky for him he's pretty quiet so far,

he stays quiet.

I'll have to get updated pics of my pair and get some opinions. DH is already asking when the little roo's dinner date is.

Is 10wo old enough to have a good idea weather he will be breeding quality? I don't think he is but I don't know how much he'll change as he gets older. (Color wise that is)

Excuse them looking a little ruffled, they didn't want to pose. I've only got the pair so pics of both and one of the boy with the PR boy to give you some idea of size. They are the same age and the Rock was miles bigger but now my little Wellie is catching up.

Love to know what people think of them both. The pullet will stay weather she is good or not,

for dark eggs. The cockerel DH wants to put in the pot. I would like to keep him but I want to breed standard. If he's not good enough we'll just be growing him out.

Honest opinions welcome, you won't hurt my feelings if you say they are terrible

Congratulations on your Welsummers!

I am concerned about the shafting in the back feathers of your roo......watch to see if this disappears. Males should not have shafting in their feathers. I like his comb (I wouldn't worry about him not having 5 points, this can be worked on in later offspring) and the shape of his head, very proud looking, nice yellow legs. He is still quite young and can change alot between now and maturity.

I like your pullet but her hackles seem to be a little light, but I see some red mottling in the boys chest, if that remains as he matures it may help with the breast color and hackle color of the female offspring. Let's give her some more time to mature as well and look at them again in a couple of months. The males will change more now at this point than the females will. Thank you for sharing them with us.

I personally do not like the roo...too many flaws. The penciling on his feathers are too much black into it and his chest feathers are too light. I dont like his comb that well, two points "melted" within each other. His eyes are too green, instead of being reddish bay in color. Look at that Barred Rock's chest, he is going to be good eating!

The pullet is lovely and she will blossom by the time she is a year old. Her color will deepen. Her eyes are more green which it is a fault but let's wait until she starts laying and see if there is any changes.
