Thanks G'ma and Ewesheep! I love the wide range of eggs that Welsummers give us. Robin you can use any picture of mine that you would like, whenever you want.

Thank you, and I will do it soon as I can! Didn't get enough sleep this morning.

Fayofkoko, I added your name on the Breeder's list and the added the state next to your name. I deleted your name under the Members, no states mentioned. Congratulations on getting Nate's birds.

Besides hatcheries, there is a member living in Missouri but I do not think she breeds them.

You may have to go out of state for breeders, some will ship and some will not unless they can meet you half way.

Hello all!
It's official. My Barred Rock hen literally changed sexes

It is possible, though rare, for a pullet/cockerel under one year (still growing) to change to one of the opposite sex

So, tomorrow night I have to action her... ahem... HIM along with two other roos (but not my Wellie!!!)

Hello, I am a newcomer to this forum, and have owned Welsummers for a little over a year now... and I have a pressing question, to wit: What is the optimum ratio of roosters to hens for Welsummers? I could only buy hens and am considering a cock for breeding purposes, but with so few hens(5), I may need to get a few more to dilute his attentions. The suggested ratios on the internet and literature range from 1 cock to 8-20 hens... with most sources being in the 1 rooster to 10-12 hens range. Welsummers are kind of relaxed, so maybe the lower end of the range is ok?

I thank you in advance for your time.

Welcome!

With this question, don't watch what I do, watch what I say

I have six roosters (only one is a Wellie) and one hen at the moment: NOT GOOD! I am selling three roosters tomorrow night and on March 1st 15 female chicks will arrive, but back to you, it is best to have ONE rooster for every 10-12 hens, I'd say. It's what I've heard, and I'm sticking with it! By Sunday I'll have one hen, a rooster for breeding (my Wellie), a rooster for show (my Red/Brown Cochin), and one other that I have to keep 'cause he's sick

Good luck and welcome again!
