That is a bummer!

I've been mulling over acquiring bantam Wellies for a while now. I think it would be a fun project to work towards a darker egg.

You CAN work toward a darker egg on the bantams but it would take dedication to get there. Erhard has been working on them for years and Nate's bantams as well as Gamesbirds have been able to get there as well.

Erhard's lines are German (Verheyden)
Nate's lines are Holland/Netherlands (Amestein)
Gamesbirds are German/Holland lines (the combo of the two lines Verheyden and Amestein)
Mark Montgomery were from Erhard's lines and guessing the new ones from Canada but not 100 percent positive. The Canadians were mostly German (Verheyden) lines.

There was a lady in AZ that has some of Nate's birds as well that are pure Amestein.

Those breeders are reputable. AS for MPC, it is unknown.

Yes they do!

I only know of one breeder that is contracted by MPC but not part of WCNA membership.

Once I do find out the breeder or breeder's names, if it is good or WCNA membership, be prepared to jump on the bandwagon for bantams.

As for the Welsummer LF from MPC, I got a hunch who has been supplying the eggs/chicks. I know she has other breeds for sure. Like the Marans, Penes, SSH, Orpingtons and Spitzhaubens.

And, are we allowed to mention "her" name? Or the state "she" lives in? Is it northeast of Texas and rhymes with larken paw?

No, not her LOL! There is a lady named Carla in OK, she raises good Spitzhaubens but dunno about the rest of the breed she has. So she is good there.

The one that is contracted to MPC lives in Arkansas. Her Welsummers were from Sandhill Preservation and another hatchery I believe. Less than ideal Welsummers. People were very disappointed with her birds. She was in it for money and too many breeds.

I believe another one would be in Michigan that does exhibit birds but his birds are a bit better than hatchery but it's a hit or miss with his birds from MPC.

I was one of those "dissappointed" buyers way back in my early hatching days, re Arkansas breeder, though did not order Welsummer hatching eggs from her. Have no stock from her left w/ 1 exception, a blue andalusia who is in my layer flock only.
