Beagles are great family dogs but you have to educate yourself. They are by no means dumb, My dog figured out how to open my bi fold doors to get at the garbage, which is where the nose comes in. They have to be exercised and when they get bored is when they get into trouble. My dog comes when I call her if she goes off thu the yard after a scent, she just comes when SHE wants to. I got my dog at the pound and was told most dont make it out so they didnt even bother getting all the info on her. 3 days after I got her I had already spent $95 at the vet, she was covered in flea bites, missing hair and had bronchitus. She is so happy to be at out house and living the life of luxury.
She only barks when someone comes up the driveway...or she sees the groundhog in the driveway and remembers she used to be a hunting dog! She even growls and barks in her sleep. I agree, its not an anoying yappy bark or a loud bellow, its a lovley sound to those of us who love them.
