The Westminster Dog Show

Thank you! She's a sound mover and has a gorgeous head; she's also very showy, just has to be plopped on the ground and her tail goes bang up. She's fun to watch.

OMG my puppy's aunt, Promise of Glory, is representing the Great Pyrs! And his uncle, American Style, got Best of Breed Opposite Sex!

James is a beautiful dog and he was on the Westminster last night being recognized for his work as a therapy dog. I can fondly recall a relative's springer spaniels when I was growing up.

I guess I just don't have the patience for a high energy dog anymore. When I want to be lazy I like a dog that is lying there being lazy right along with me.

That beagle showed his stuff last night.
I loved the barking.......such a beagle.
First time the beagle has won at Westminster.........Great job.
I love dogs period, purebred and mutts.
I have three mutts and 10 purebreds.
They are all great wonderful dogs.

switched to BB, who won? All good animals and who's best is judges opinion as there is no way to break them I bet none of us would agree on best dog to own.

I was glad to see a Havanese place in the Toy group. The breeder of my dog was invited to show hers at Westminster when the Havanese debuted. "Cookie" won BOB. It was so exciting watching a dog on tv that you have met in real life. Jan (the breeder) passed away last summer--she would have loved to have seen last night's show.

There's a downside response for the breeds that that place among their groups--they get "popular" and overbred. Remember how popular dalmations became after the 101 Dalmations remake (the one that used real dogs)? The dogs were cast off by owners that didn't understand the needs of the breed (oops, I rhymed) or the owner/dog temperament didn't mesh well. Then dalmations and their mixes started showing up in shelters. Good breeders try their best to place their puppies in the right home, but you know how it goes.

I love the standards. Buy one in a min. if I had the room. As far as the haircut, if I am correct, the hair remains on the joints of the dogs. I guess this was beleived to help keep them warmer, or protect the joints in some way?

I'm glad the Beagle won. Just a cute all american dog!

Yep, that's correct about poodle haircuts. Poodles are originally water retrievers, and if you look at the way their hair is cut, the pompons on the legs keep the ankles warm, and the rosettes on the hips do the very same. The large amount of hair on the chest and head of the dog also kept the dog warm while working in the water...and the "bare spots" where hair was clippered off allowed for faster swimming. Very clever, if you ask me. Most people think poodles are "frou frou" dogs but they're very intelligent and are good working dogs, and they have those clips because of their working heritage.

That collie was to die for!! My sister just lost hers.

She still has a tri though...who was shown...I don't remember her complete name, but they call her Julie.

That's cool that a beagle won...

Personally, I don't like small yappy dogs...can't stand em...BUT, that being said, a would like a Pekingese, a Schipperke, or a French Bulldog...like that would ever happen...
