So i've been doing some research and I think this is what I understand: dominant white does not effect red pigment, ONLY black. and it can be less than thorough in even that, allowing black to 'sneak through' such as the black spot on snowflake's tail. so as she is showing the columbia gene she has (she is Co co) and perhaps the dilute (Di di). I'm seeing some problems with this, i hope our 'experts' can explain fully.

so does a 'proper' lemon mille require ig? Or is Di okay? Cause i could breed Belle with a mille and in that first generation have 25% lemon milles!!! talk about a fast project!!! And yes, i know she probably has some major conformation errors, but breeding her offspring to good quality milles could eventually result in SQ birds that breed true! And another 25% would be lemon gold necks, just like Belle!! Or since coming up with fanciful names is all the rage (Jubilee,lavender, violet (blue laced silver), etc.) and gold neck is rather uninteresting, we could call it lemon drop, or citron mottled, or something...

Your Cochins are gorgeous, very cool color. I'm not sure what to call it either. Assessing color on frizzled birds confuses me

Hey there - I'll try to get photos of the non frizzles I have in this color. One thing that I think that helps with the frizzles is the ability to see more of the full feather color because it brings lower feather colors up and is not buried under... ( like the difference between the fluff on a Buckeye vs a Rhode Island Red...) but with these guys it's almost like i need to collect feathers from different areas on the bird I'm thinking has "red lace blue" going on. To kind of evidence the the core color is blue and the red comes up on the edges.

Again though I have no idea of where to pick up stronger red lacing while keeping the blue... since I don't see it existing in any American birds.

hmm... but we keep coming back to this partridge thing. Because shouldn't extended black take care of any red, leaving us with a white bird except for the black leaking through? Come back experts!!! I'm starting to doubt your exsistense!

True-Black (as seen in Stara fowl and Bow Lake fowl) with only one genetic change from wildtype (the E gene), look like Black Copper with yet more of an advance of black. True-Black is also called Gold Birchen (incorrect) or Bronze (correct). The Hackles of a cock are groundcolor, as are the shoulders. The Saddles may have such vague ground leakage that they look bronze (hence the term Bronze). Every where else is black, and the hens are almost total black, with the exception that elder hens develope the odd ground-color fleck here and there by the hackles. Self Black (much more common) is True Black with Recessive Black (cha/cha). This isn't passed onto the offspring in a cross, so in theory, a cross between Black and a colored bird would result in (in most cases) Phenotype Bronze birds.

Thank you!!! So could the columbia they have (Co/co) be causing further gold leakage? If you look at my photos in a former post, you will understand what i'm talking about. My lavender rooster is the father and the 'pale gold neck' is the mom (Belle). The hen from the cross (Snowflake) has a gold pattern on her neck and the rooster has lots of gold.

Do you happen to know the answer to my question regarding Lemon Milles? Must you use ig?

On another note, can Cha cause that leakage of gold in lavenders? Besides sunlight and corn and the rest of it?

These are beautiful hens, wished I had some colored like them.

I have a pretty little d'uccle hen from the feed store that looks like a gold neck but she is a yellow color. What genes does she have and could she be used to create lemon millies? Or is she just a 'hatchery quality' gold neck? I love her color & want to know if I can make more or even some lemon millies.
