The Whiting True Blue..

I am fascinated by this bird..we identify most birds by their outward appearance, their phenotype, and associate certain things with that. The Whiting True Blue however can look radically different from bird to bird, but always carries the gene for producing a blue egg. I ordered four from Murray McMurray hatchery, and last April 8 I received them. They’ll be 18 weeks old tomorrow, here are some pics so you can see how neat their appearance is. They are supposed to be prolific layers, I’ll let you know about that when they start, right now they are very slight birds compared to my Cuckoo Marans, Bielefelders, Black Australorp, and Speckled Sussex.
Here is a great article..

Wow! My four WTBs are all so much smaller than my other birds..I can’t imagine them laying an egg! My Cuckoo Marans and Bielefelders and black Australorp and Speckled Sussex are significantly bigger..

My Cuckoo Marans and Wyandotte’s are way bigger. It’s my understanding that’s normal for this breed. They are sleek. This is my Roo and the lady who laid that egg. I’ll have to snap a pic of BB later

I've had my WTB Betty for a little over a year. She is a hoot, funny, friendly, smart and definitely a laying powerhouse! Her longest stretch is 18 days straight. Big be-a-utiful light blue eggs! I wouldn't trade her for the world. And your right, very different looking from bird to bird which I also dig! Your ladies are beautiful!

I agree they are each different. A bit skittish and a bit unsettling. Once held, they seem to relax a lot. Mine are a month old. I took them out in the yard for the first time last Sunday - one was unfortunately lost (slipped through the chain link fence into the woods) - I was so sad. I was unprepared for the way they are tended to scatter from the herd - unlike my Red Stars. Now, I know so into the coop until older before letting them out into the yard.

My WTB hens have calmed down a lot. They are 6 months old and both come running now when I come towards the coop. The eat treats out of my hand readily. Slights more jumpy than my Wyandotte and Marans. But wow they lay consistently. I get 6 eggs per week per hen. Egg size is increasing. So far I’m impressed.
