the Will They Hatch? thread

Hello Will They Hatch? thread, I'm back again.

Candled last night and somehow forgot to switch the 'bator back on, only noticed it early this afternoon.

Have 7 due next weekend and er... lots due in 2 weeks. Those were what I was candling but didn't pull any last night as I had some I was unsure of.

I am desperately hoping I haven't just killed all my eggs

but I'm afraid I have.

EDIT: Oops, looks like this thread was dead and I just dredged it back up.

Sorry for your mishap RBF, and for abandoning this thread ; I was sick at the time and just kept getting sicker. It sounds crazy, I know, but I do use up some kind of energy in some way, praying for and trying to will others people's eggs to hatch and chicks to live.

I do like the company and support of a group hatch myself, so will extend well wishes for your eggs since you sought this thread out to vent and/or for support.

well sadly im back as well, as apparently one of the juvi visitors this evening, must have accidentally (hopefully), turned the dial all the way up on my incubator (was as high as thermomator could go), and hour later when i went to turn eggs and take a dozen chicks out, they were all almost dead, and died soon after found. checked couple eggs and still active, but unsure of how many eggs will survive... glad now the serama eggs werent brought yet, but sad at possibly losing the dutch eggs, and of course mine and another's game and bantam, as well as quail eggs.

Kfchickenlady, good luck with those eggs!

Steve, thank you and it doesn't sound crazy to me.

Have you shaken that bug off completely yet? My DH picked up a nasty flu bug around the same time you get sick and he's just now feeling well again.

Laughingdog, that's just awful.

I sure hope some of those eggs make it.

I have an update on my eggs, oldest batch were due today and I have pips and a chick! I'm so surprised and soooooo happy!

I've defiantly lost some in the later set eggs though, looks like around 50% might still be viable. Not great but better than I expected. I do have one to check and inspect closely though, it looks like I have 2 embryos growing in one egg!

It's a normal sized pullet egg and showed no sign of being a double yolker at an earlier candling but it now appears to have twins growing in there. I don't like their chances, especially as it's not a very big egg but I will let it grow and see how it goes.

well some eggs are still active, and had some hatchings, but not sure they are right in head or body, but hoping they make it and improve, or ill just maybe have to destroy the whole bator full, to spare any more suffering. starting to dislike children...

I hope they improve, I'd recommend baby vitamins if you aren't giving them already. They saved my last batch of chicks.

My chick is doing well and my pips have popped!

6 little babies out now, only one egg left and I could feel something moving when I checked it and it's piped internally so we'll see how it's doing in the morning. I did help one out, it had piped and zipped at the small end and couldn't push out. the membrane had dried to it a little and as soon as I peeled that off it popped right out.

Have to get new batteries or a new candling torch to get a better look at my egg that appears to have twins in it. I really hope it's just one embryo looking weird but I can't see it well enough to be sure with the dieing torch. Will post pics if I can take a decent one.

As for children, I don't have any and none visit here regularly but I installed a gate bolt on my spare room door where the 'bators and brooders are so I can padlock it when required. Better safe than sorry, some just can't keep their hands to themselves and my 'bators and chicks are too easy to damage.

I am new to this thread. I have 2 duck eggs, thats right 2 eggs from my only ducks....a Rouen and Blue Swedish duck (who were eaten by a fox earlier this spring

I started out with 7 but 5 were unfertilized. So I rigged up a homemade incubator and so far things have been okay. We are on day 25 and 19 for the 2 eggs. I am concerned about the older of the 2 eggs as I can't see any movement when candled (with a crappy flashlight). There is something solid in there but I am scared it stopped developing late in the game. The other egg I can see movement but there is much more open space in the egg to see through.

Neither egg smells btw.

Hopefully I get a hatch! I miss my ducks and the backyard isn't the same without them.
