When did I set?

Eggs are due the 28th??

I candled last night and needless to say my eyesite what it is and a flickering maglight and I don't think I have anything that looks like these eggs are doing anything.

I'm waiting a couple of days and look again, but pretty sure I will just have more space to buy more eggs.

OK from the pic's I believe the dark spot may be eyes. I candled between days 7 and 8. They are marans eggs and some were hard to see. I'll candle again in a week or so.

Alright I just candled this morning (in the dark bathroom). I'm on day 8.

It appears I only have 1 TJ egg developing and MAYBE the spotted one I threw in from my own hens. I'm not certain on either account but I am certain that most of the eggs are clear.

At this point would you abort the mission? I don't want to go through a lone chick rearing again. I have enough chickens, I was just doing the TJ's for a thrill.

Sorry to hear more aren't developing.

I would continue and just buy some day olds to keep it company if only one hatched but then I want the chicks I can get as day olds.

I completely understand you not wanting to rear a lone chick.

On a completely different note, I just set another 2 dozen eggs for Valentines Day, they are also roadside stall eggs so we'll see how they do. The are from the same place as the others but from different chickens, these are smaller and many chalk white eggs in the mix.

I'm going to leave them for another week and see. Besides, there's a lack of day old chicks for sale up here right now. No one's crazy enough to be hatching yet except me.

I'm overwhelmed with chickens right now though: 32 adults in the coop, 3 5-week olds in the coop, 6 6-week olds in the basement and today my bantam went broody (and that girl sure can pack eggs under her!). I contemplated leaving her on the nest and then sneaking the lone chick under her in 2 weeks... but I'm done with too many chicks to take care of and hauling water just so they'll spill it and it'll freeze.

I've got to wait until it warms up for more chickens. Oh wait I ordered how many eggs for the easter hatch?

Giving the baby to the broody is a great idea!

Saves trying to break her, that's for sure and saves you from raising a single baby.
I haven't ordered for the Easter hatch (yet) but I have worked out this morning I can indeed fit 4 dozen eggs in my 'bator.
