the Will They Hatch? thread

SCG: I love white leghorns too, I am glad you found your lone chick some cool buddies! One of the chicks I hatched from you out of your leghorn momma, is the cutest little white chick with 2 black spots on it's wing feathers, it is one of my favorites. It's name is "Spot" I am thinking it is a roo, but maybe if he is nice he can stay when he is grown up.

My other two are pipped this morning. One was actually pipped last night; but I convinced myself it was a piece of shell, from the hatched egg, lodged between the carton and egg. That one has pipped and then made one advance towards a zip at the wrong end of the shell. Since they're standing in an egg carton, I'm not sure it's possible for it to hatch. [They've survived against the odds so far, so............... ]

Steve, Since you're a GF member, why not go change your title to "Chicken Whisperer"?

edited because I can't spell!!

I set a bunch of mutt eggs the other day just to test fertility on a roo I have in the pen with my hens I use for eating eggs. I guess we will see what I get out of this. I will candle around day 10 cause the eggs are a nice dark brown, can not hardly see inside of them at all.

Seriously, I'm neither a chicken whisper nor a chicken whisperer. I just don't believe in giving up and saying the show is over before the fat chick has peeped.

The Creator has the final say IMO, and I'm not even a close copy of the Creator, so I try to keep my mistakes to a minimum, and allow Him every opportunity to give blessings as He sees fit.

UPDATE: Of my 7 BCM eggs, I managed to hatch 4. Three made it on their own, one was shrink wrapped and I helped it out successfully (thanks to a GREAT post on the site).

One egg was a dud, and I did eggtopsies this morning on the other two. One had a fully recognizable chick about an inch long. The other was full-term and was shrink wrapped.

Next time I'm going to leave the hygrometer OUT of the bator and just follow Brinsea's instructions. I had two 100% hatches prior to this one.

Not the foggiest idea. It's a black chick with a small white area on its head and butt. I have no idea because it's mixed with my white turken roo... so maybe my marans, barred rock or jersey giant?

And Daisychick: I have a leghorn NN too that's white with a few black spots, funny I named it spot, too! It has a huge comb but I'm not sure yet that it's a boy.

Ok mine has a huge comb too, so maybe I will hold out hope it is a hen. It is so friendly and cute.

Is the comb pink?
This is what my purebred leghorn girls looked like at 6 weeks (big comb but it was yellow-pink)
