The season finale of the Witcher leaves me as furious as I was watching the GoT ending. Total b@ll$h*t. angry2_zpsf054308d.gif

GOT, now that’s were it’s at.
GoT was fantastic until they reached the end of GRRM's material. Once Benioff and Weiss started writing their own material, the show tanked. Hard core. The last season absolutely enraged every GoT purist for several reasons: 1. The writing was down right lazy and shallow. 2. They betrayed the carefully crafted character depth of every. Single. Character. They chose to have every character act counter to the essence of what defined them. And not because they were trying to be unpredictable. They did it out of pure laziness because they WANTED to end the series as quickly as possible. They no longer cared about GoT but were instead focused on Star Wars or whatever their next project was.... And openly said so.

So yeah, the thematic and literary crime that was done to that series is a bit of a sore subject for me.

I tried to remain optimistic but I agree - in fact, on balance, the whole season is BS. It started out with a few jarring moments here and there that could have been redeemed, but it goes downhill quickly from ep 4/5 and I can really see why Cavill decided to call it a day.

It’s not even that the show has radically departed from source material that would have played really well as a series (the world-building in the game and books is one of the standout elements of The Witcher, and is somehow left out of s3 entirely) - it just feels like a disorganized, slap-dash mess. It’s clear that there was no agreed/single creative direction, and that’s such a shame.

I look at how well HBO did The Last of Us (my other favourite game) and I could cry. Hopefully it gets cancelled after this farce!

I really enjoyed the Last of Us. I'm hoping they don't ruin it as it moves into the next season.

As for the Witcher, yes.... Agree with everything you said. It was just an absolute mess. I've already mentioned that they needed more depth around Yennifer's redemption arc.

The downfall of Taissa was just poor writing. Didn't align to everything that defined her character over the past seasons. Just lazy....

The episode of Ciri in the desert was dumb and confusing. You couldn't tell if she was hallucinating or having a real interaction with the other princess. They just threw an entirely new character in without any explanation of who or what she is/was.

And lastly, Cavill's final battle was just RIDICULOUS. He was so easily beat that it didn't ring remotely true to the character. Quite simply, the writers threw Cavill under the bus and fans along with him.
