Two legged are the worst. I came home yesterday and discovered that sombody had opened one of my runs. Half of my chickens were running around unsupervised. I don't know if it was an adult or older kid being criminal or a curious unsupervised little kid being a nuisance. Everybody came back to the coop, but one of my Golden Cuckoo Marans pullets seems ill or injured. There are no marks on her, but she's moving slow like she's sore. I suspect injury rather than sickness. Maybe somebody tried to grab her or kick her or something. She's spending today in the hospital cage. I guess I'm picking up some locks today. On the bright side, the run they opened was the one that has the bigger meaner rooster in it. Rodney can be difficult with people that haven't established their dominance with him. I would imagine that when somebody was threatening one of the girls he might have gotten his spurs working. He's a Jersey Giant so he's pretty good sized too. Maybe he's the reason that whoever it was didn't get the chance to open the other run.

I have heard alot of people around here having problems with people trying to steal their birds. I hope you find out who did it. Maybe your roo taught them a lesson.

Eeee - that sucks. I don't even really like the thought of people coming to look at my birds when I'm not there - but let them out? I'd be cranky!

People can be so disgusting. I hope your girl feels better and whoever felt they needed to supervise your chickens gets a reality check.

Uggh, when our farm was younger we'd have the neighbor kids come around and play with the chickens when we were outside. They got very 'comfy' and started coming whenever the mood struck them, usually when we were inside the house. Once I saw them trying to hold my Polish and they dropped her. Some other younger kids took to chasing my bantams. I went out there right away but they had run off by then. Eventually they stopped and never came back.

Okay, no more hijacks.

That's funny. Can you just imagine the scene that unfolded when Rodney came struttin' out and found a strange person on his turf? I bet you don't have uninvited guests again! At least not ones without full body armor on.
I have some ornery pigs. I've just been waiting for some predator to tangle with them. I tell all my neighbors that I'll be waiting to mop up the blood after. The predator's blood, that is.

Could a coon have possibly opened your run? I have read they are very very crafty when it comes to your latches...
