I ordered a heritage turkey mix and I think they (a certain large hatchery who shall not be named) sent me a standard mix.

How soon will I be able to say if a poult is a bronze, versus a Narraganset?

They are a week old. The mix I ordered doesnt include bronzes, and I got nine speckly chipmunk looking poults who are sprouting a suspicious quantity of brown in their feathers. Then there are white ones and some which are clearly black spanish.
Dangit!!!!!

Ugh that would really cheese me off! Good luck with that, I dont knwo the answer but I hope you got a few Narragansetts, that is my dream breed!

give 'em a call and let them know!

last year, i ordered an easter assortment of ducks from ideal. someone fell asleep at the quality control switch, and they sent me a standard assortment instead. i called 'em and the next week, i had my easter ducks. most hatcheries will make it right if a mistake is made

Narri poults do look like bronze poults, even their first set of feathers does(they might look a shade greyer then bronze juveniles but that varies).

For a while I couldn't tell my Merriams from my Narries cause they just looked them same.

Thanks guys! I feel a little better. I called the hatchery and told them my suspicions. They said to stand by for a couple fo weeks and if I was sure theyn they would make it right. Of course by then my brooding fun meter will be pegged, and I will stick with what I have. Oh well, at least if I screw this experiment up it wont be with heritage birds that are on the ALBC lists... These guys can be my training wheels.
Things like this for example:
