The Wyandotte Thread

First picture is hen/rooster came out and dusted in freshly tilled garden. A photographer, I'm not. Hopefully tomorrow she'll bring the brood out.

So it was feathery critters then.

Woohoo! The wyandotte page has hit the century mark!
Update for me, I now have 10 Golden Laced Wyandotte bantam chicks, 3 Columbian and 3 Partridge hatched out. So officially back in the bantams business now!

I just have to post what's happening with my black BLRW! They are both turning dark blue!

"GIBBS"

"PEARL"

Both of these birds started out black laced. At first I noticed their "under down" starting to lighten. Right around 4 months of age.
And now I can even see it in the lacing. Pearl has changed more rapidly than Gibbs.

I LOVE the change and think it's absolutely beautiful! My question is this: Is it normal? Do all black laced turn blue as they mature? These BLRW are about 5 months old now.

Here's my blue cockerel, "Levi":

And my stunning splash pullet, "Splash"!

I am so totally in love with this breed and this particular color variety that I've got 18 newly hatched chicks in the brooder. I can't wait to see how they grow up!

BluffCountryShepherdess I just wanted to say they are absolutely beautiful. I have two growing out now that I am afraid one is going to be a roo. I already have a black laced red and a blue laced red roo but I don't really want to part with him if he turns out to be a roo. I have nine eggs in a friends sportsman so hopefully they will turn out to be pullets.

Just found this thread- gorgeous birds- this is Jewel, I got her from a friend, she was a survivor of a dog attack, maybe 3 months old? She had no noticable injuries, but 3 days after the attack quit walking- so i took her on and she has become a house chicken- walks very oddly so am hesitant to put her with main flock- she tiptoes-

I'm still wondering if anyone else's black laced turn blue as they mature?
Any of you experienced breeders out there have this in your flocks?

I don't believe the blacks turn blue.....it's more that they're a very dark blue that can be mistaken for black when they first start feathering in.

I've never had one change from black to blue anyway and I've hatched out lots of chicks over the last 4 years.
