The Wyandotte Thread

You think that's sad! Today I just realized that of my 13 slw chicks 9 are cockerels .

It's a luxury to be able to choose the best amongst 9 roosters.

My GLW 'Jemima'.

She was very timid and frightened of everything when she came to us, I think she had been bullied as her feathers were awful. But after 7 months she's happy and healthy, loves her food and can just barely be allowed to let only me touch her.
Whenever she's scared of something new (my husband usually to his disgust!) she will honk like a goose and crow like a rooster!
She free ranges all day which I think has helped her confidence of new things.

All in all, She is growing into a very fine Hen who is loved very much by us all.

Edit: in the pictures she is accompanied by her best friend nugget, a buff Sussex.

i have 11 c,wyandottes ..they are about 6 weeks old ..they were suppost to be all hens but am thinking theres a few roos..i no one comes at me every time i go in the coop with them..infact the one gave me a good bite on my hand ..it actully hurt when he/she did..i pick them up anytime they try that ..

i noticed the one had lite brown or tan feathers coming on its breast ..not sure thats a good sign ..was hoping to breed a 4-h bird for my grandaughter from these birds ..cackle said on their site that they have been working this breed for 40 yrs..you would think there wouldnt be any brown feathers coming out in them by now ..has anyone else exsperanced this with their columbians..??

does anyone have any guess's of what are roo's or hens..
they are still pretty birds in my opinion..but then i think all chickens are cool looking ..lol

I can't see any roos in there. At 6 weeks the comb and waddles will stand out on roos. Look for any darker red ones with noticeably larger waddles. Nice looking birds.
