The Wyandotte Thread

How common is it for partridge Wyandottes (mine is a bantam... Don't know if that matters) to have feathers on their legs?

My little newly hatched bantam partridge wyandotte has a little bit of down coming down the outside of her legs. It doesn't go down very far, but it is definitely where it shouldn't be.

I am just wondering if I got what I paid for...... Ebay eggs.

Here are two pictures. It was VERY difficult to get a good clear picture of the fuzz on the leg, but you can see it.

Thoughts?

If you don't understand color genetics that might not be the best idea

. Project birds require a destination and a plan on how to get there. You can only work with what you have to work with but you won't accomplish a new color variety without that knowledge.

exactly. I missed the original post, but no matter what variety you want to work with, research it thoroughly, figure out all the mutations behind that color variety, then, depending on the complexity of the pattern you're wanting, it may take anywhere from 2-5 generations or more to fix the color, then you have to get the type perfected for the breed.
I plan on spending the next 2 or so years learning before I give it a try. I have a tendency to plan well in advance so I know what I need to learn and what I have to do in order to have my greatest chance of success. My endless research led me to BYC to begin with.

Thanks for the advice I will be sure to follow it before I invest time, effort and birds!
