The Wyandotte Thread

Those all look like mutts to me...No boys I can see. A breeder should be able to sell you what you want. Try Chickenhill on this site. And straight combs to boot. I would not breed them. Sorry....
Do you think even the dark ones are mutts? The dark ones do not have a straight comb.

Hello all! I am new to raising chickens! We just got these to silver laced wyandottes on Sunday and they are 3 weeks old. We are really excited! top picture is princess, bottom is cupcake haha

What would I get if I cross my chocolate bantam Wyandotte hen with a blue bantam Wyandotte cockerel? My hen is the type of chocolate where if you would breed her to another chocolate, you'd get 100% chocolate offspring. So she's not the dun based chocolate, correct?

Aaw, you're going to just fall so in love with Princess & cupcake! I really wanted a silver laced, but they weren't available with all of my other chicks so I settled on columbian. Are yours from a breeder or a harchery?

They are from a breeder I found on craigslist. She had quite a set up!

choc and dun are TWO DIFFERENT GENES! Dun works like blue and you will get black dun and khaki. Choc breeds true but is also sex linked. It is very different to work with than blue or even lavender. The cock(erels) have 2 copies of the choc gene to express it and the pullet/hens only need one. It works more like barring. The pullets will pass the gene off only to cockerels and the roos will pass the genes off to all chicks. You can have cockerels that are split for choc but don't express choc. It is just a totally different mindset when breeding them. I had a pen of blue and black hens covered by a Choc roo. ALL the pullets are choc and all the roos look black or blue but are split for choc. When you breed a Choc pullet x Split roo you will get some choc roos some split roo and some choc pullets and some black pullets (not split)

I don't like dun and don't have any. Mine are all choc. The Choc wyandottes mentioned above would be CHOC too and not dun as I have some from Jerry Foley too.

@DMRippy I can't find the chocolate unicolor on the chicken calculator. Whenever I use chocolate (not dun based chocolate) from "help pick color", it brings up dun based chocolate. Is there a trick to it?

I think I figured it out by changing Choc gene to Choc- for the hen and I to I+I+.

@Avlana

If you do have purebred of both parents, according to the chicken calculator, you will get half blue and half black. The cockerels will be split for chocolate
If you continue with Blue Split Roo and cross it with the mother, you will get some khaki, along with black, blue and chocolate.
I don't know what your objectives are but you will only have some khakis as a new color from the two.
Cross the khakis together and you will get some splashes along with chocolate and more khakis
