I am interested in hearing from y'all who have been working with Wyandottes for a few years what kind of utility expectations you have for y'all's respective flocks.Pretty funny,
I haven't been on the Forum for a while and may have to change my signature to reflect the fact that the perfect Wyandote for me at this point is a great production bird as close to SOP as possible under the circumstances.![]()
my blue wyandotte just got some of her babys and brought them out for the first time today
In my flock the pullets start laying at 5 - 5.5 month and will lay right thru winter.
I hatch only in spring, so hens 1.5 years will take a break during molt anytime between Oct and Dec and start laying again Jan or Feb.
My Blue Variety seems much more broody about 4 out of 12 will go broody sometime during spring or summer.
Columbian variety 2 in 10 will go broody.
The cockerels finish at 2 KG live weight at 4 month.
They seem to be able to do well in both very cold and very hot climate, but fertility will go down during extreme temperature.
I love their temperament, to me they are the perfect dual purpose bird great on free range, very independent and pleasant to work around.
I'm looking for a blue red laced female chick or 2, let me know if anyone knows where to find themthanks
NysWhere do you live? I don't know how to check user name profile info to see wher you live... Sorry
