Sorry for flooding! This is me restraining myself - I have soooo many pictures!!!

Roocrazy - nice white one - is she from white parents or is she a recessive white sport?

You could try penning him with only the hens you want to hatch from. Sometimes the roo may have a preference and only mate with a few hens. I normally keep a roo with 3-4 hens and have 100% fertility.

if you want to know which birds are being bred , try spraying a little blu kote on the roo's bottom under his tail and the girls hes getting will have blu tail end .. ..

Good to know... Now I just have to learn what blu kote is. Noob here.
if you have chickens your going to want to get some blu kote and have it on hand ..its for treating cuts and bleeding .you can buy it at the tracter and most feed stores ..you will want to put a little first aide kit together to have things you may need on hand..its blu to cover the red in blood but its a disinfective as well , and it will help stp bleeding..chickens are one of few animals that see colors real well and red blood is something you want to cover fast , because the other birds see blood and they will peck at it...i have things like vetrx , vasilean, blu kote, anti fungal cream, vet wrap bandage, antibiotic cream , preperation H,witch hazel...Q-TIPS..sorry trying to think whats all in there without looking ..lol

i dont use all this stuff all the time but its good to have on hand just in case its needed..vasilean is used to cover combs and waddles when temps are going below freezing here ..i live in ny as well and you no how cold our winters can get ..it helps prevent frostbite ..witch hazel and prep -h for prolaps vents..fungal cream for favos. its a type of ring worm they get on their combs and ears and waddles ..if you birds get this , you'll notice a white powdery looking stuff around their ears and waddles ..not to be mistaken for white ear lobs that some breeds have naturaly..vetrx is used for when they have a cold or runny noses..its also good for scaly leg mites ..its got camford in it and reminds me of some of the meds we were given as kids ..lined up in the kitchen for a big spoon full in the spring and fall ..stuff tasted nasty ..but mom insisted it worked ..lol

sorry for rambling on ..but you get what i am saying ..nice to have some of these things on hand when things happen..

I have a SLW - Winnie. My husband said she reminds him of my Grandmother. Just the look of her face and eyes. Too funny. She's very friendly but does have a mind of her own. I was wondering how long are they productive in laying eggs before they start to slow down.

i no i read that most production breeds will in general slow or stop laying after 2 yrs but it also said haritage breeds tend to lay sporatic and will lay for more yrs ..but it is also dependent on the bird its self ..i read of a bird still laying after 6 yrs..not every day but a couple times a week ..
