The Wyandotte Thread

I have to tell everyone that I love coming to this thread! I'm just getting into bantam Wyandottes and I'm getting such an education! Even with the disagreeing opinions, there's alot to be learned so thank you to everyone that participates in this thread! I appreciate it so much!

Just wanted to pass on the new link to the new and improved Wyandotte Breeders of America club website. When you join the club you get newsletters and a breeders list. There are a lot of great breeders in the Wyandotte club and this is your chance to get their information. Email address, phone numbe, and what breeds they raise.

Every single time we've had a sunny day for the past two weeks I haven't been at home during the daylight. I will be at a show this weekend, and I don't feel like waiting any longer. These pictures are not great, they were "just for fun" shots and don't show the birds well. Here is the original pair outside on a very blustery day in the spring.

I really like your hen and pullet....nice type, and the heads on them look like wyandotte heads..no crow heads there.

I cant tell much about the young birds, can you kick those ugly silkies out of the way next time you take their picture?

My 5 Yr. old daughter Brianna took her young Silkie pullet that she raised to the Green River Poultry Show last month and won Grand Champ of the Jr. Show (this was her 3rd show ever), we have a 13 year old boy named Nathan who has been showing call ducks and wyandottes for about 5 years in Jrs and has never won Grand Champ. OMG he was going banannas on the way home..especially when we had to stop at Walmart on the way home so Brianna could buy a Barbie the Veterinarian doll with her win money....boy was he mad.

Since enough time has elapsed and tempers have cooled, we are reopening this educational thread. Please be helpful, instructional, tactful and if a critique is needed, please do it constructively and in the spirit of education. Leave personal squabbles off the thread or the Wyandotte thread will, once again, be inactivated and the folks who were learning so much here will be frustrated in their attempts to learn. Use the handy dandy report button if this gets off track or inappropriate. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Ok I have a ? for all the great breeders on this thread. I got one single comb chick and looks like it is going to be a roo.

Should he be used or not? I have read (can't put my finger on it) that it can be good to use a single comb. Is this right or wrong?
Pros and cons please also please keep this friendly agree to disagree so we can keep this thread open.
This chick is one of the best looking ones (of course) ,but if it turns out to be a bad thing he will be my project roo

Thanks

Personally I would never use a single comb roo. I did have a single comb hen back when I first was getting started with my BLRW, but now I don't keep any single combs and my fertility has been just fine.

I agree with Katy.... we don't use single comb at all anymore and our fertility is great. No one wants single comb wyandottes unless they want pretty laying hens. The single comb do seem to be the best looking birds though.... it is hard to give them up sometimes.

I have arranged for some BYC people to kidnap you on their way to the Ohio Nationals.... you shouldn't be on the computer anyway with your eye problem

that's kinda what I was thinking, but was not to sure. So I knew this would be the place to ask. I have been nail biiting hoping they would reopen the thread. LOL
ok if I want to interduce the blr color to another breed. What color hen would be best to start working with? If I don't do that he might take over my olive egg layers and my ees. So I'll use him some where
