The Wyandotte Thread

Accidents do happen. We hatched a Black Orpington chick this last week with some brown on it and a pea comb (a black hen was found in the Buckeyes but we thought we were faster than the Buckeye males). If a customer shows us picture proof that we have an "accident" then we will refund the purchase price and pro rated shipping cost of the accident. An ethical breeder will always try to make their customer happy. We have spent over $600 this month on new fencing, but some birds are escape artist. We have one Black Orpington hen that demands to lay under our porch. we are still trying to find her hole. How can a 9+ pound fat hen escape so often?

Has your seller responded to you yet?

Well, give him/her a pat on the back for making the right decision! Every show with any size at all should use APA judges, IMO. If you want kids to know what a poultry show is supposed to be like, an APA judge is the best way to go. When I was first in 4-H, we had several APA judges that got me going on the right track for good birds, etc. I'm quite sure that if the clowns that judged later in my 4-H years had judged in the beginning I would not have near the interest in poultry I have today!

From time to time, I end up with some chicks with feathering on the legs. A throwback to cochin roots, maybe? Sorry about your chick!

this "breeder" has feedback now posted that they sold hatching eggs of another breed that also hatched incorrect so really makes me wonder about ethics.

Just have to share.

Came home today and one of my Wyandotte broodies had an adorable baby next to her.

Little One is now Little Momma. Here she is with her adorable baby.

I watched her and she is so affectionate with this wee chick.

The chick would tug on her wattles and she very gentle pecks it to say now now that is not nice. She uses a soft motherly cluck with the wee chick. Little Momma still has 2 more eggs that should hatch anytime now.

i'm not sure if this (our) judge is an APA judge, but i do know that they follow the APA rules and regs.... It says it right in the application form.
I have seen tho...if a certain judge likes a certain breed....that breed seems to do a little better than some of the other birds....just saying

I thought I'd ask here about my SLW. I think she's quite pretty. I keep reading about hatchery quality and mine came from a store so I know she isn't show quality but she seems better than some of what I see around here called hatchery chicks. Also do you guys think she's a She? People on the gender/breed board always seem confused by Wyandottes.

Opps I should have said she is 12 weeks old now.

I sure do love her I wish they had more than just her so I didn't have to get the reds. I can only have 2 chickens in town so of course with chicken math that means 3 is really 2.

Thanks so much for looking.
