The Wyandotte Thread

Well you can add me to the SLW list! I'm getting 15 chicks from the foleys in 13 days...yes I'm counting every day down!

I also ordered eggs from David Leferber lines and some more from Rick Hare lines. So I'm hopeing to have a sorta large flock of them and we're building another coop for them.

In fact, I originally wanted SLWs, but BLRWs is what came to me pretty much like the rain falls from the sky. When I've got the physicalities straightened out (like, maybe next year) I may well take on another color of Wyandottes, although my husband looked at me with wild surmise when I mentioned that I was thinking about getting a couple Cochins to use for broodies.

I Love my cochins, but I have to say my SLW are so sweet, and lately I have been seeing some awesome pictures of BLRW that I would not mind having around my own self!

It's photos that set me up for BLRWs; I was googling around for SLW pics and there was a random BLRW in the mix, as happens on Google Image. They are incredibly beautiful and amazing to photograph, and I was, in fact, at least 30% looking for new photographic subjects when I gave in to my life-long desire for chickens (also 30% a new source of income for the farm, 30% insect and weed control, 10% eggs).

I was wondering if I am on the right track with my breeding program and I'm hoping for some feedback. Here is a picture of my 12 week old pullet. I picked her to keep because of her nice round body, wide head and good yellow legs. She has a very calm personality too. The faults I see are that she has too dark of a blue lacing on her breast, and her tail (which she is holding a bit lower than usual in this picture that makes her back look longer) is nice and open at the bottom but a little pinched at the top. Her color looks washed out in this picture. She is actually less gold and more red in the neck feathers. Any input would be great! Thanks!

I'm new to this still, but her legs are nice and yellow. I curious as to what causes the to dark of lacing because I have a pullet that's a little to dark as well.

Thank-you everyone for your thoughts on my pullet!

I guess I need to post a frontal picture of her chest. The blue is way too dark so the lacing looses definition. I would like to see the same color blue on her chest as I see on the rest of her body.
