The Wyandotte Thread

Its been there for a few years that I am aware of, anyone that plans to take a breeding program seriously will either document a Proposed standard at the start or help develop one by working with others breeding the same bird, or seek a proposed standard that exists by researching and asking. Without proposed standards each individual ends up going in different directions with thier line and teh birds become dissimalar and therefore will not be accepted into a standard.

I bought three point-of-lay hatchery quality SLW a month ago or so, and they had been housed with some miscellaneous unknown white roosters, including at least one leghorn. I put the first two eggs out of them in the incubator with some buff orp eggs from my neighbor down the road, and this weekend I got this.

Just wanted to share my babies!

At church Sunday a lady walked up and asked if I knew anyone that had a Golden Laced and Silver Laced Wyandotte males for her flock. I didn't even know she liked chickens. Anyway, they need to be breeder quality or better. Being mated to hatchery hens. Can pick up for them at Crossroads. They may even ride with us. Please email me and I will pass it on to them. They are looking at $50 or less per bird. Thanks.

Well we are on page 5

So, just can't wait to meet Rebecca and Jerry, and pick up our new birds. I made it to Lexington today, although I don't have the dog van, I have made room for the chickens.

I guess I should catch up on the blrw thread, even though we are getting partridge. I can still learn

I'd guess everyone is watching chickens grow.

When does show season start?

That depends on where you are and how far you are willing to travel, and if you are involved with the 4-h FFa programs. The Fair season has started here which is the start for the kids, that will carry on through mid Oct. Then the others start here Oct. 15 we are fortunate and have 8 within a 2 hr drive. The big show held by the OSPF in shawnee is only 15 minutes away.

Hi! I'm a new chicken owner, growing up my parents had a few, but its a whole different story when their your own! My family owns SL wyandottes. I love these birds!!

They are pretty and getting friendly. I don't know any thing about them, besides what I've read on here and in a few poultry books. I love all the pics on here. The other colors are absolutely gorgeous!!

I would love to have more colors, but limited by space...and we are getting 4 maran pullets in the spring. What is the problem with hatchery birds? I don't really understand much about that, and while looking for the chickens I bought that came up. Mine came off from Craig's list, but they are young, maybe 16 wks when we got them. Now at 20+ wks we are getting pullet eggs very regularly, maybe 4-5 a day. Any helpful information on chickens in general would be great!
