The Wyandotte Thread

There are some tricks to breeding laced patterned birds when the pattern is not right. It is a matter of compensation mating.
Ultimately you want to work toward the Mahogany not light or even darker red but the mahogany amny lines have been diluted with GL birds added to increase numbers.
next suggestion with LF Wyandotte do not breed from cockrells if you can avoid it. If it is a must then do what feel is best but re-evaluate once the birds are fully mature and filled out, this is well past point of lay for pullets and way way past the cockrells ability to fertlize an egg

Here is the proposed standard:

BACK: Rich mahogany bay on surface. Saddle—rich mahogany bay in appearance, with a medium blue stripe through each feather, laced with rich mahogany bay, conforming to shape of center, the medium blue stripe having a long diamond-shaped center of rich mahogany bay.

WINGS: Fronts—Medium blue with rich mahogany bay centers. Bows—Rich mahogany bay. where did you get this proposed standard?

Centre Co. Fair today! Girls had a hard, long day. They got a 4th and a 5th out of 21 for their BLR wyandotte hens(brown egg layers). And a 4th out of 11 for their Foley BLW Rooster. They were really nervous, but did great. We horse show tomorrow and Sunday-pending Irene, that is. We're totally exhausted.

It is a proposed standard as stated since the variety has not been accepted however this a provides a written form for everyone involved with the variety to work toward. This is actually quite critical so different lines do not go incompletey different directions. I have had to do this with a variety of OE bantams as well to provide a focus and better develop a variety everyone involved needs the written word to focus on.
One of the real keys to acceptance by the APA is that a minimum of 5 breeders having breed the variety for a minimum of 5 years can provide a breeder statement that the bird will breed to breed type, Color (minimum 50% to allow for Blue), and all birds from the breeders will be similar.
Without proposed standards to work toward the varieties in developmental phases would go different directions with different breeders due to personal taste and preference.

Oh My, the Wyadotte thread droped to page 4.

Robert will be glad it has been quiet.

SO there is a proposed SOP for the BLRW. Thats great a starting point to get it approved. Also will help to get everyone on the same understanding of what the variety is expected.

I am now the proud companion to six gold laced and six silver laced pullet chicks! So excited!! They seem to be fairly calm and relaxed little babies with very distinct personalities. I can't wait to see how they all turn out!

I found a light brownish/pinkish egg in the coop today. I know my Golden Comets and White Leghorns didn't lay it. Could it have come from my Blue Laced Red Wyandotte ? She is around laying age. What color eggs do they lay ?
