I would echo this. In general, my LF Partridge Wyandottes tend to lay smaller eggs than all my other breeds (Dorkings, Cochins) except Polish. The Silver Laced don't seem to lay quite as small an egg. I would like to improve this trait and I believe it is actually pretty easy to improve if you focus on it. The only real problem from a show breeder's perspective is that I can't afford to hatch only from the 2 hens with larger eggs. I need more genetic diversity than that or I will put myself in a corner. So egg size becomes less important to me as a breeder than body size, width, vigor, and fertility etc. In fact, as a color breeder, it is actually less important than lacing and correct color. If it isn't, I tend to really have problems with color in a short amount of time. If I were breeding solely for a commercial perspective, it would make a lot of sense to spend some major time on egg size and egg production.

ATTENTION BANTAM BLR BREEDERS!!! I am working on a blr cochin and am in desparate need of a female blue or splash laced. I would prefer a cull that is single combed and looks like a cochin in the tail but any help that could be provided would be GREATLY appreciated. If you can help me out please PM or email me. Thank you and here is some pics of my 3 month old F3 cockerel that I have now. I would like to get the pattern set before moving on to get the type in there. I will most likely have to cross to buff columbian or gold laced to get type so getting a few more birds besides this one with the blr pattern will be a must

This is jewel, she was given to me, she couldn't walk, but was a fighter, she is a survivor of a dog attack(killed 11 of her flockmates) - she was given to me to nurse- and has become a very special gal- she slowly recoved her strength and to look at her you'd never know her history, it took about 3 months, a complete set of photos is here:

We had 4 BLR hatch out of 6 eggs(a 5th hatched but died after the first day. And we had 6 partridge banties hatch, not bad for our first dry hatch. Here are a few pics of the BLR babies and I took a few of our SLW, now that they are almost 8 months old.

PEEP!
