The Wyandotte Thread

Hi everyone, I have enjoyed looking through the pages of this thread, but must admit I have not read all 500+ pages. I am looking for a bit of info and am hoping I can find it here. I have a BLRW roo and am considering breeding him with my BLR Splash and Silver Laced hens. What will I get? Is it advisable to mix these colors? I am not breeding for show, just for my own backyard flock. It will be sometime before I am able to breed them since the roo is just a little guy, perhaps a month old. Any help would be appreciated. :)

I don't know much, but I know the BLRW and the Splash would be fine you will get Blue and Splash. The SLW..... I read you can make sex links with this combo, but I don't remember if it was the roo or pullet......or if it is correct.

Thanks for the info guys!
I'll try to get some pictures of mine tomororw. We have 4 that have the thicker combs but one of them has a single comb which is strange. It also grows faster than the others!

WyoChickenMamma, this roo is a cross between Blue Laced Red and Silver Laced, although I don't know which was which.

Your BLRW and your splash should produce 50/50 blues and splashes, that's a pretty standard cross.

OHHHHH isn't he a looker. Thanks for posting. I think I will allow my BLRW roo to cover my splash, SL and another BLR. See what all I come up with from them. He sure is pretty, thanks again for posting that picture. :)

Here are some better pictures related to the combs I was talking about.

We have 6 Wyandottes. All have the fat comb except for one.
Here are some with the regular combs. They are all supposed to be pullets.

And here is the one with the single comb that is different. So weird.

Maybe it is just me, but that first one looks kinda of like a "HE". That is a bunch on red comb and wattles compared to the bottom two, which I am sure are hens.
